Routine check-ups and preventative care for older Northern Beaches homes and businesses to avoid potential issues and extend the longevity of your electrical systems. Upgrade to modern switchboards for improved safety and functionality. Safe, reliable, compliant, backed by 38+ years of experience.
Most of the boards we replace are 25 to 40 years old. Ceramic fuses, no RCDs across the house, mixed wiring from successive renovations, and not enough capacity for a modern kitchen, an EV charger or split-system air con. We pull the old board out, design the new layout around how the house actually runs today, install RCD and surge protection across every circuit, and label everything so the next person to open the cover can read it at a glance.
What the job looks like on the ground: we book a site visit to look at the existing board, the meter position and the main, then quote with a fixed price and a likely outage window. On the day, we coordinate the Ausgrid disconnect/reconnect if needed, build the new board on a clean back-panel, terminate each circuit one at a time, test, and hand back a compliant board with the test certificate. On weatherboard homes and older 1980s solid brick stock we factor in the realities of the existing cabling, sometimes the right job is a board upgrade plus a couple of sub-circuit rewires rather than a board alone.
We've upgraded boards in Avalon, Bilgola, Newport, Mona Vale and across strata buildings on the peninsula. Steve has been doing this work since before RCDs were mandatory. The board is one of the few electrical decisions that affects every circuit in the house for the next two decades, so it's worth getting right.
When to call us
- Original ceramic-fuse board in a home built before the mid 1990s
- Frequent nuisance tripping or a board that struggles under modern load
- Adding an EV charger, ducted air con, or a kitchen renovation
- Buying or selling a home and needing a compliant, RCD-protected board
- Strata building common-area board due for replacement
- Insurance assessor or building inspector flagging the board as outdated
Our process
- Site visit: We look at the existing board, the meter position, the main and the way the house is wired today. Photos and notes, no obligation.
- Fixed quote: A written quote with the new board layout, RCD and surge protection scope, and the likely outage window for the day.
- Utility coordination: Where an Ausgrid disconnect/reconnect is required, we book it and align it with the install so the outage is as short as possible.
- Installation day: Old board out, new back-panel and enclosure in, each circuit re-terminated and labelled clearly. RCDs and surge protection installed across the board.
- Test and certify: Full insulation, polarity and earth-loop testing. Notice of Service Work or CCEW lodged as required.
- Walkthrough: We show you the new layout, where the main is, how to safely reset an RCD, and what each labelled circuit covers.
Why choose Electrix all Blew

Frequently asked
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Common signs are ceramic fuses instead of circuit breakers, no RCDs (safety switches) across the house, frequent tripping under normal load, scorch marks or buzzing at the board, and a board that hasn't been touched since the 1980s or 90s. We can take a look and tell you honestly whether it's a now job or a watch-it job.
Will my power be off all day?
Most domestic switchboard upgrades take a single day, with the actual power-off window usually between 4 and 8 hours depending on the scope. We give you a realistic window on the quote and plan around it.
Do you handle the Ausgrid disconnect and reconnect?
Yes. Where the job needs the network supply turned off at the meter, we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with Ausgrid and time it tightly with the installation.
Will a new board fix all my electrical issues?
Sometimes. A new board with RCDs and surge protection solves a lot of nuisance tripping and gives you proper safety protection. If you have older sub-circuit cabling with insulation faults, we'll find them during testing and tell you what's worth addressing alongside the board.
Do I get paperwork after the job?
Yes, a Notice of Service Work or Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work as required, plus your test results. Keep it with your house documents; it matters when you sell or refinance.
