Local electrician in Curl Curl

Curl Curl sits in a pocket of the Northern Beaches where the housing stock tells the story of the area's growth, Federation-era cottages tucked into the dunes, fibro beach shacks from the post-war years, brick-and-tile family homes from the 1960s and 70s, and a steady wave of renovations and knock-down rebuilds carrying the suburb into its current chapter. Each of those eras left its own electrical legacy behind the walls, and each one needs a different hand to bring it up to current standards safely.

Electrix all Blew has been working across the peninsula for more than 38 years, and we treat Curl Curl the way we treat every job, methodically, without shortcuts, and with the long view in mind. Salt air off the beach is hard on switchboards, copper terminations and outdoor fittings. Older sub-mains, ceramic fuses and TPS wiring buried in plaster all sit quietly until something gives. We're often called in to diagnose faults that other sparkies couldn't pin down, and we approach every house in this neighbourhood the same way: identify the cause, fix it properly, and leave behind a system that protects the home for years to come.

From our base at Bilgola Plateau we cover the whole stretch of coast, and Curl Curl is one of the suburbs we know best.

Electrical services in Curl Curl

Switchboard Upgrades

A large share of the original brick-and-tile homes along Carrington Parade and the Griffin Road area still run on ceramic-fuse boards or early circuit-breaker panels that pre-date current RCD requirements. We replace them with compliant boards featuring RCBO protection on every sub-circuit, arc-fault detection where appropriate, and clean, labelled layouts that make future work safer. Every upgrade in the area is sized for the load the home actually carries today plus the EV charger, ducted aircon or studio addition you're likely to add tomorrow.

--- EMR Testing & Rectification

Electromagnetic radiation from poorly arranged wiring, unbalanced sub-mains and stray-current paths is something most electricians don't measure for. We do. In the older fibro and weatherboard cottages closer to the beach, original wiring routes often run directly behind bedheads and lounges. We test with calibrated meters, identify the source and rectify the wiring path so the readings drop to safe background levels. ---

LED Lighting & Downlights

Replacing halogen downlights with low-profile LED fittings is one of the most common requests we get from homeowners in the area, particularly in the 1970s and 80s brick homes around the Curl Curl Lagoon catchment where original lighting layouts no longer suit modern open-plan living. We design grids that match the room rather than the old fitting positions, recess into insulated ceilings safely, and use dimmable drivers matched to the switches so you don't get flicker or buzz two years down the track.

---

EV Charger Installation

More Curl Curl households are adding home EV chargers as the second car turns over. We assess the existing switchboard and sub-main capacity before quoting, many homes in the neighbourhood need a board upgrade or a dedicated sub-circuit before a 7kW or 22kW charger can be safely added. We install Type 2 wall units with proper RCD Type B protection, weatherproof enclosures rated for the salt-air environment near the beach, and load management where solar or battery systems are already present.

---

Aircon & Ceiling Fans

Curl Curl gets the full Tasman-side weather, humid summer nor'easters and cool winter southerlies, and most homes need a mix of split-system aircon and ceiling fans to stay comfortable year-round. We're licensed for both the electrical and air-conditioning sides, so one team handles the cabling, the circuit, the condenser mounting and the commissioning. That means cleaner installs, no finger-pointing between trades, and a single point of accountability if anything needs attention later.

---

Safety Checks & Compliance

Whether you're buying a home in this part of the Northern Beaches, preparing a property for rental, or simply due for a check after a decade in the house, we carry out full electrical safety inspections to AS/NZS 3000. That includes RCD trip testing, insulation resistance, earth-fault loop impedance, smoke-alarm verification and a written report you can hand to a property manager or conveyancer. Older homes near the lagoon and the dunes frequently turn up issues, we explain them plainly and prioritise the urgent over the cosmetic.

About electrical in Curl Curl

Curl Curl sits between Freshwater headland to the south and Dee Why headland to the north, with the lagoon and the long stretch of beach defining the suburb's geography. North Curl Curl and South Curl Curl together form one of the more architecturally varied pockets on the Northern Beaches, original interwar cottages along Carrington Parade, post-war fibro and weatherboard closer to the lagoon, solid 1960s and 70s brick veneer through the Abbott Road and Griffin Road grid, and a growing layer of contemporary rebuilds along Stewart Avenue and the streets backing the dunes. Each era brings its own electrical conditions, and we've worked across all of them.

The environmental factor that shapes most of our work here is salt. The prevailing nor'easter carries salt-laden air directly across the suburb, and you can see the result in every meter box within a few hundred metres of the beach, pitted enclosures, green copper terminations, corroded earth stakes and the slow degradation of any unprotected outdoor fitting. We specify marine-grade enclosures, tin-plated lugs and stainless fixings for any exterior work in this neighbourhood, because the alternative is a callback in five years.

The housing stock itself drives the second wave of issues. A lot of the original cottages around Wyuna Avenue and Surf Road were rewired in the 1970s in TPS cable that's now reaching the end of its useful insulation life. Ceramic-fuse switchboards are still common in homes that haven't had a major renovation, and many homes added second-storey extensions in the 1980s and 90s where the sub-main was never resized, we still find 16mm² sub-mains feeding what's effectively a doubled-up house. Identifying and properly upgrading these is bread-and-butter work for us in the area.

The local landmarks shape the work patterns too. Curl Curl Lagoon and the surrounding parkland, including John Fisher Park and Harbord Park, mean groundwater is high in parts of the suburb and earth-stake resistance varies enormously street to street. We test rather than assume. The proximity to Manly Lagoon catchment and the runoff patterns through South Curl Curl mean sub-floor moisture is common, which is why sub-floor ventilation and properly sealed sub-floor wiring matter. Harbord Public School, Curl Curl North Public School and Northern Beaches Secondary College's Mackellar Girls Campus bring a steady flow of family-home renovations through the area, and we work alongside several local builders on those projects.

We service the surrounding coastal suburbs on the same conditions, [Freshwater](/electrician-freshwater/) shares the same headland salt exposure and a similar mix of original cottages and rebuilds, while [Collaroy](/electrician-collaroy/) presents an even more concentrated version of the beachfront-corrosion problem we manage here. Further south, our work in [Balgowlah](/electrician-balgowlah/) covers comparable post-war brick stock with the same generation of switchboards now due for replacement. Curl Curl sits squarely in our service patch, and we know the streets, the housing stock and the conditions intimately.

Why locals call Electrix all Blew

38+ Years On Tools

Steve has been a licensed electrician for nearly four decades, almost all of it on the Northern Beaches. That depth of experience is why we get called in to diagnose faults that have stumped other sparkies, and why our work in this neighbourhood holds up over the long term.

---

Methodical, Not Guesswork

We don't swap parts hoping the problem goes away. We test, measure and identify the cause before we touch a tool. In a suburb like this where the housing stock is layered through five different building eras, that approach is the difference between a real fix and a callback.

---

Local & Family-Run

Electrix all Blew is run by Steve and Amber from our Bilgola Plateau base. We're not a franchise, not a call-centre, when you ring, you reach the team that will turn up. Many of our clients in the area have been with us for over twenty years, across three generations of the same family.

Curl Curl electrical FAQs

We're adding a second storey in Curl Curl, what's involved electrically?

A second-storey addition usually means new circuits up to the new floor, often a switchboard upgrade to add capacity, plus a fresh wiring layout to suit the new room plan rather than retrofitting around the existing one. We come in early in the build, run the new infrastructure during frame stage, and finish at fit-out.

Our Curl Curl beach cottage has knob-and-tube or cloth-insulated wiring, what should we do?

That wiring is past its safe life. We don't recommend patching it, circuit by circuit upgrades on cloth-insulated wiring leave you with a mixed system that's still unsafe. For original-era cottages a staged rewire (room by room, or zone by zone) is usually the right call. Honest conversation needed once we've inspected it.

Can you install A/C in a Curl Curl apartment with strata approval issues?

Possibly, strata approval depends on whether the condenser location affects common property and what your strata bylaws say about installations. We can scope a job that works within most strata requirements (condenser on your balcony, neat cabling, minimal facade impact) so the approval conversation is easier.

Do you do exhaust fans for bathrooms that fog up constantly?

Yes, bathroom exhaust fan upgrades are common in Curl Curl flats and older cottages where the original fans are undersized or vented into the ceiling cavity (which causes the moisture problem you're trying to solve). A correctly sized fan, vented properly outside, makes a noticeable difference.
