Pool & Garden Lighting

Safe, compliant wiring for pool pumps, heaters, and underwater lighting, alongside the garden, path, festoon and feature lighting that turns a Northern Beaches backyard into the space you actually use after dark. Pool wiring is its own discipline. Underwater fittings, pump circuits and any equipment within the pool zone have specific isolation, equipotential bonding and IP-rating rules under AS/NZS 3000, get them wrong and the consequences are serious.

What we install across pool and outdoor work: underwater LED lights wired through low-voltage transformers in compliant locations, dedicated pool-pump and heater circuits with their own RCDs, garden lighting on transformer-fed 12V or 24V systems for safety and long fitting life, IP-rated festoon and string lighting for entertaining areas, path lighting on photocell or timer control, and feature uplights for trees and architectural elements. Salt air on the peninsula eats cheap fittings, we spec marine-grade housings (316 stainless or properly powder-coated aluminium) and stainless fixings as a default.

On the design side, less is usually more. A well-placed handful of fittings, uplights on two or three feature trees, a path runner along the main route, a transformer-fed glow under the pool coping, does more for the space than a row of bright spots. We walk the garden at dusk with you, mark up positions, and quote on what we both agree the place actually needs.

We've done pool and garden work across Bilgola, Avalon, Newport, Whale Beach and Palm Beach, including the steep, terraced blocks where cable runs need careful planning and the close-to-the-water properties where salt exposure is brutal on anything less than marine-grade gear. Every install is tested, RCD-protected, and handed over with the controller wiring documented.

When to call us

  • New pool needing pump, heater and underwater lighting wired and bonded
  • Garden makeover with feature uplights, path lighting and a transformer setup
  • Entertaining area wanting festoon lighting on a controlled, dimmable circuit
  • Replacing failed cheap garden lights with marine-grade fittings that last
  • Salt-affected coastal property where existing fittings are corroding through
  • Adding timer or photocell control so the garden lights come on automatically

Our process

  1. Dusk walk-through: We walk the garden and pool area with you at dusk, mark up fitting positions and talk through the controlled outcome.
  2. Quote: Fixed price per zone, pool wiring, garden lighting, festoon area, controls, all itemised.
  3. Circuit and bonding design: Pool circuits sized correctly with their own RCDs, equipotential bonding planned per code, garden zones on dedicated transformers.
  4. Installation: Marine-grade fittings on stainless fixings, neat cable runs, weather-rated junctions, transformers mounted in protected locations.
  5. Control setup: Timers, photocells or smart controllers configured per zone so the lighting comes on when you want it.
  6. Test and handover: Full insulation, RCD and earth-bonding test on pool circuits. Walk-through of zones and controls.

Why choose Electrix all Blew

We're a family-run electrical business based in Bilgola Plateau. Over 38+ years on the Northern Beaches means we know the housing stock - weatherboard home, 1980s solid bricks, strata buildings - and what tends to fail in each.

We're licensed for electrical and air conditioning. We carry full public liability and contractor insurance. We turn up when we say we will, we call ahead when we're 20 minutes out, and we hold to 1-hour appointment windows.

Our 113 Google reviews sit at a 5.0 average. That's the result of doing the work properly the first time, not chasing reviews.

Frequently asked

Why does pool wiring need a specialist electrician?

Pool zones have specific rules under AS/NZS 3000 around isolation distances, equipotential bonding (so every metal surface around the pool is at the same electrical potential), IP-rated fittings and dedicated RCD protection. Getting any of those wrong creates a genuine shock risk in and around water.

Can I use any 12V garden lighting kit?

You can, but cheap kits fail fast in coastal salt air and the transformers often aren't IP-rated for outdoor use. We spec marine-grade fittings, properly rated outdoor transformers, and stainless or marine-grade fixings. The cost difference up front is small; the difference at five years is significant.

What's the difference between festoon, path and feature lighting?

Festoon is the string of overhead bulbs for ambient lighting in entertaining areas. Path is low-level lighting along walkways for safety. Feature is uplights on trees, walls or architectural elements for atmosphere. A good garden uses all three, in moderation.

Can the garden lights be controlled by an app?

Yes. Smart controllers (Clipsal, Push Smart, Shelly and similar) can put each zone on its own schedule, dim, or trigger off a single tap. We're happy to install simple timer/photocell systems or full app-controlled setups depending on what you want.

How long do underwater pool lights last?

Quality LED pool lights from reputable brands run 10 to 15 years. We install with serviceability in mind, every fitting has slack cable in the niche so it can be pulled out and replaced without draining the pool.
